My name is Kimberly and I own Chic Design Studios. I am looking to hire and train 2-3 interns for the upcoming wedding season. I am extremely excited for this year and all the great opportunities that are ahead for Chic Design!

Below you will find a detailed breakdown of expectations and answers to any questions you might have. Please read this before emailing to make sure this is something you would like to be a part of.

Internship Pay!

0-6 month- unpaid
6-12 months- wage depended on review (You will be set up as an independent contractor 1099 form. You do not need to file this form with the government unless you make more than $500 in a year. As an independent contractor Chic Design is not held liable for worker’s compensation, payroll taxes, or insurance. Please make sure your cars are insured and that you have health insurance!)
After the 12 month mark pay will be increased by $.25 every 6 months depending on your reviews. If you are continually showing progress in design and execution you will receive raises.

Internship Perks!

1-      FREE EDUCATION- Floral design education can take anywhere from 4 months to 2 years! And cost between $7500- and up. Internships give you basic skills you would learn at a school for no cost! Plus you get to work with me! J And I am hilarious! J
2-      EXPERIANCE- Nothing goes farther than experience! I have been in the flower industry since I was 19! That means I have 11 years under my belt that I can brag about! J Plus you are getting experience in a VERY specific field of floral design, wedding and events. This will help you be the best of the best in the wedding floral industry.
3-      REFERRAL PERK- During the unpaid (0-6 months) internship we offer a 5% referral payback. You refer a client to us and they book their wedding. You will receive 5% of their wedding order! Example: $350 order will equal $17.50 dollar bonus! J Pretty sweet I think! After the 6 months the percentage will drop to 3%.
4-      PAID DELIVERY (SET UP/STRIKE)-You will be paid for delivery (set up/strike) depending on the location and the time spent.
5-      YEARLY TRIPS-I like to treat my staff to a fun filled weekend somewhere outside of SLC.
6-      PHOTO/INSPIRATION SHOOTS- Multiple times throughout the year I participate and create photo shoots where we get to be creative with our designs. This will be a great time for you to get in extra design time.

Internship Expectations! (What I expect)

1-      FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE: Weddings are mainly weekend events. We do have our fair share of events during the week as well as on Sunday. If we have an event on Saturday be prepared to work a few hours Thurs-Sat.
2-      DELIVERY- Some weddings will be too large for the trusty “burb” to handle. So sometimes I will need help.    In that case be ready for a car full of flowers. Spillage is free of charge! J There will be some weddings where you will be delivering flowers totally on your own.
3-      WEIGHT TRAINING- Floral design believe it or not is VERY strenuous! Arrangements can get heavy and awkward. And buckets full of water weigh a ton. Please be able to lift up to 30lbs without a problem.
4-      EVERYONE IS EQUAL- All employees, me included, will be expected to help in all aspects of the job. This includes; cleaning buckets, sweeping floors, delivery/set up, and all the other not so fun parts. Floral Design unfortunately is not all “playing” with flowers. You have to take the good with the bad.
5-      FOLLOW DIRECTIONS- Please come prepared to FOLLOW directions. A lot of times because of time you will be given a “proto” type arrangements and basic instructions on how to design it or replicate it. Being a go getter type personality will benefit you in this area.
6-      CREATIVITY- Flowers and design are a creative business. I love to help people grow and develop their talents.   I find people with backgrounds in art, photography, and other design do well with flowers. I am looking for someone as obsessed with weddings and design as I. And trust me, I am pretty obsessed. Just ask my boyfriend how many emails he gets daily from me…it is obscene! J

2-      Flower types as well as care/handling of flowers
3-      Color, texture, and style composition
4-      Pricing and bidding
5-      Trends
6-      Styling and Design
7-      Becoming floral wizards at! Corsages, Boutonnieres, bouquets, centerpieces, and all the other fun goodies that come our way!
8-      Fun, Laughter, and Friendship! This industry is a blast! I won’t lie some of my best moments where when I owned my floral shop and I was stuck at work until 1:00AM with my workers. You know why it was so much fun? Because each of my girls was my friend! I try to have a good owner/worker relationship. With that being said I won’t tolerate rudeness, backbiting, or high school behavior. I like straight forwardness, if there is a problem or if you hear anything, let me know so I can address the problem ASAP.

Valentine's Day Flowers

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! I will have a limited supply of red and colored roses available. You must order by Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Any orders after that date will not be accepted. Please email me at chicdesign.kw@gmail.com let me know which flower option and 2 color choices. (If your first color option is gone then I will use your second option.)

Option 1-½ doz-$35.00 (price does not include delivery)

All arrangements are designed in a shallow container with floral details. The roses are short stem this helps keep the cost down.

When you place your order I will contact you for payment as well as pick up or delivery time. I am not equipped for “timed” delivery, please be considerate of that.

So I have been really busy so the last few posts have been pictures from my personal camera. I am currently making contact with all my brides photographers so I can get some better pictures of the flowers. Mine are alright but there is nothing like a professional shot of my designs.

I have some exciting news to give you next week so stay tuned for that!

I have been so lucky to have had the best clients this summer. I can't say, "Thank You!" enough for all the support I have had this year so far. I have met some beautiful brides on the inside as well as the outside. I look forward to my future brides!

Raquel Bridal Sitting Bouquet

Raquel was one of my August brides. She is from Arizona and wanted to have a bridal sitting bouquet that she could use for her Arizona reception. Her favorite flower is peonies and since we are not in peonies season I opted to use them in her silk bouquet so she can have them in at least one of her bouquet. I hopefully can get some fantastic shots of the bouquet from her photographer but for now these will do. :)

Heather's Bridal Sitting Bouquet

Heather is one of my September brides but I did a bridal sitting bouquet for her in August.

Heather came to me with a good idea of what flowers she wanted to use. We did her bridal sitting bouquet with light blue hydrangea and white calla lilies. I added a wire, pearl, crystal beading detail for interest.

I can't wait for Wed when I get to work on her wedding flowers so stay tuned for those!

Lani Wedding-August 2011

I had my first experience doing a Tongan Wedding in August. I met with Natalie (Lani's sister) a few weeks before the wedding. I have never done a consultation for a bride without her there so it was interesting to discuss and design flowers for a client that I never met.

Lani's colors where light blue, lavender, white, and gray. I added a little creamy/yellow as well for an accent color. I love this color combination!!! It is so pretty and soft. It was a great combination for her dress and style.

This wedding was one of my largest quantity wise and most inexpensive considering how many arrangements we did. Which goes to show that if you are willing to give your florist a little leeway she can come up with economical designs that give you the most bang for your buck.

Flowers used where: hydrangea, delphinium, roses, lisianthus, stock, orchids, dusty miller, and curly willow.

Carrie was a WONDERFUL bride to work with. From the moment she contacted me I new we were going to click and work so well together. I was dying to do Carrie's flowers so much that I totally re scheduled a vacation I had planned for St. George. I know drastic but come on the flowers where FANTASTIC!!!

Carrie gave me her colors of guava and eggplant. Now the guava right off was a hard color. Very few if any flowers come in the color guava so we focused on the eggplant/purple color. We added hints of orange/pink for the guava. If I do say so myself it turned out FANTASTIC! Carrie only had one stipulation concerning her flowers, she wanted something totally different and unique. She specifically said I don't want it to look like any other brides bouquet out there. Well Carrie I think we achieved it!

I am going to beg for professional pictures from her photographer since the bouquet shape is hard to see in my pictures.

Flowers used where: hydrangea, orchids, protea, greenery, fern curls, calla lilies, and curly willow.

La Caille Bridal Show

The second booth I was able to provide flowers for was Avenia Bridal in Provo, UT. The girls at the booth were so kind and fun! Plus the dresses, oh boy the dresses!!! They are all so amazing and unique! Defiantly a must shop to go to when planning your wedding.

Bridal Show-La Caille Booth

I participated in the La Caille bridal show this summer. I donated my floral services for the $100,000 wedding give away they put on every year! I can't wait to post pictures of that fabulous event in October so stay tuned! :)

Back to the bridal show. I did a smaller booth this time and focused on two different styles. The first style is more rustic. I used a combination of garden roses, stock, dahlias, succulents, and curly willow. I have to go on a little tangit about succulents. I LOVE THEM! I find they are under used. They are such a fantastic texture and color and bring such a great conversation piece to the table. They are fantastic in bouquets, centerpieces, bouts, and corsages. They come in all sizes and are one of my FAVORITES!

The next look I went for was a more modern/classic look. Something that is unique but that in 20 years you will still look back at pictures and be happy with your choice. Flowers used are: phalaenopsis orchids (a new favorite), cymbidiumb orchids, roses, and blushing bride protea (my new favorite flower!). Check out that fantastic leaf handle! I ADORE IT!

Here are some pictures of the full booth and our adorable handouts that we did. Our booth was an old vintage buffet and the handouts consisted of a cute paper sack with candy and we attached our business card with twine.

I have been such a slacker on blogging. I have a couple of shots from the wonderful McKenzie from Photography by McKenzie. McKenzie is located in Utah County and does an AMAZING job!

Megan contacted me 1 week before her wedding, that's right 1 WEEK! Thankfully I was available and could provide her with some beautiful flowers. Megan wanted something classic and traditional in yellow, pinks, cream, and green. Flowers used are: yellow roses, pink ranunculus, white calla lilies, and greens.

Isn't her dress FANTASTIC!?! I love it! I have never seen anything like it!

Blanca's daughter contacted me to work on her mother's wedding flowers. I love when brides have a solid idea of what they want and their style.

Paramount Photography was kind enough to send me some pictures of the wedding flowers.

Blanca wanted a classic look of red, white, and black. In my opinion you can never go wrong with those colors! :)

This lovely wedding from June was shot by Kristin Klein with Pickled Pepper Photography (cutest name btw!). Kristin was kind enough to send me some photos from Kristi's Bridal Shoot as well as the wedding.

Kristi was the most stunning bride! I loved her dress, her jewelry, hair, the list can go on and on!!! Did I mention her dress!?!

Kristi chose one of my favorite color combos and I was thrilled to work with a bride that wanted something bold. There is nothing more stunning then fuschia, deep red, and green. Kristi really wanted peonies and lucky for us it was peonies season!!! :) Those large fuschia blooms are STUNNING!!!

Flowers used are: roses, spray roses, dahlias, pods, stock, spider mums, berries, and PEONIES!

I received some lovely pictures from Ceniza Studios for Megan Conk's wedding at Eldredge Manor. Megan found me through Ceniza Studios and I was thrilled to design her flowers! Megan has a unique style of modern and traditional. The only request I had from Megan was she wanted pinks and gerbera daisy's! Everything else she let me have free reign on. I love it when brides do that! I did show her some pictures of ideas I had and she agreed to all of them. :)

Her bouquet was light pink and hot pink gerbera daisy's and light pink roses. The boutonnieres and corsages where all gerbera daisy's. We chose low and tall centerpieces of gerbera daisy's and unique greenery. The buffet was moved from the food table to a hallway buffet in between the receiving line area and the food area. A funny story to go along with the buffet piece; the cylinders started out with just floating gerbera daisy's and when I came back to take down the arrangements there where FISH in my cylinders as well! :) My nephews where ecstatic when I brought them over fish...they named them! :)

Bouquet of the Month and Giveaway details

I decided the other day that I wanted to start doing a little monthly give away along with posting some past bouquets for fun. :)

First off the giveaway! Well I started a Facebook page. Floral Feature-The Bride and Groom

I am so excited to show some pictures from our latest inspiration shoot that was featured on The Bride and Groom website that you can see here.
I got together with my good friend Ash with Ceniza Studios and we came up with a Valentines Day inspiration shoot. We of course added our own little twist to the holiday by mixing rustic and vintage details throughout.
I have to thank my lovely assistant aka my sister in law Rachel for helping make some of the adorable details like the XOXO wood blocks as well as the Mr. & Mrs. signs. Got to love the creative family that is willing to help pull things together! :)

Sadie & Luke Wedding

I have a soft spot for this next couple for multiple reasons. Luke is my nephews best friend, I did Sadie's sister wedding a few years ago, and my family has known Sadie's family for years. These two are so adorable and just a great couple! I emailed Sadie in November and asked her if she wanted me to do her flowers even though I live in Salt Lake. She said, "YES", so I loaded up the car and drove to my home town for a weekend of fun!
They got married at the Elks Lodge in Blackfoot, ID and Sadie's family rocked the reception decor! I have to gush a little about Sarah (Sadie's mom) this women can decorate!!! She transformed that building into something magical and I was in LOVE!!! I feel so lucky they had me do their flowers since everything else was so beautiful. Carolyn Anderson Photography did the pictures and like always she provided the goods! Carolyn and I have done a few weddings together and I love every picture she sends to me. That and she is one cool chick to work with!
Sadie chose hot pink and black as her colors. She was gracious enough to give me a little freedom on her flowers so I added black feathers to her bouquet and jewels to the bridesmaids. Flowers used where hot pink roses, hot pink spray roses, stargazer lilies, hot pink gerbera daisy's, and seeded eucalyptus. I actually did all the bouquets in holders this time (usually I am a hand tied girl) so Sadie's bouquet ended up feeling like she was carrying a small child! hahaha None the less it was stunning and she was happy!!!

Bridals at La Caille

Oh man my blogging skills have been lacking! I need to catch up on my weddings here as well as on my website. The new year has already begun and the weddings are starting for 2011. I can't wait to see what is in store for this coming year. But enough of my jabber.... :)

I met Megan at the South Towne Expo Bridal Show in the Spring 2010. Megan got married in Arizona but wanted to have her bridals done here in Salt Lake City and wanted me to do them. Megan was a sweetheart to work with and chose a beautiful location to have her pictures taken. Her only request was she wanted her colors to be dark and incorporate peacock feathers, since she was using them throughout her wedding in November. In October I met her at the amazing La Caille where the leaves where changing and driving up to the chateau was like driving through a fairy tale.

Her bouquet was a combination of purple stock, burgundy lilies, burgundy ranunculus, and black ti leaves. I accented with a turquoise metal wrap and peacock feathers.

10/10/10: Rigdon Wedding

So Amber was my 10-10-10 bride! How cool is that!?! That groom has no way out of forgetting their anniversary!
Amber was such a sweetheart and I had so much fun working with her and her mom. Amber chose one of my favorite colors schemes and one I don't see enough of . A beautiful purple, bright orange, with a touch of mellow yellow. I LOVED IT! We used a great mix of textures and colors of purple and orange in her bouquet. The flowers used are antique purple hydrangea, purple and white callas, purple lizzy, purple aneneme, orange lilies, and yellow wax. We then stayed with a monochromatic bouquet for the bridesmaids of all orange. Which consisted of using orange roses and orange orchids. And those of you who know me I ADORE orchids and don't think they are used enough!
So all in all it turned out to be a beautiful wedding and I wish the bride and groom the happiest marriage!

Jacee & Brady Bridals

I just have to tell you right now that this next couple is one of my favorites! Jacee was so much fun to work with and her mom Marnae was a blast! They wanted something fun, outdoorsy, and unique. I adore her bouquet and the flower combination we used had so much texture and contrast it just stands out! Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bouquet. It is on the verge of being one of my favorites.

I love how they used vintage props like the house and the truck. LOVE it!

Beach Inspiration

So in July I got together again with Ashlee from Ceniza Studios. This girl does such an amazing job taking pictures! I always love working with her. She has such a talent for capturing my ideas without me ever going into detail. She seriously reads my mind!

This theme was inspired by the concept of beach meets the Hampton's. I love the classic beach style more along the lines of Nautical then tropical beach.

I used a classic tan linen with white chairs for a crisp/clean look accenting with sand, starfish, and candles. The first table was more classic with full cylinder arrangements of lush hydrangea and roses. The second table has a more outdoors/rustic feel with different sized bottles with simple blue thistle and bear grass. Both tables turned out stunning and showed you simple changes for two distinct themes.

The bouquet was lt pink roses, white callas, scabiosa pods, with a color of looped bear grass. The chair accents where a wire cone with white mums and a moss pomander ball. Either one of these could also be used as an aisle post or bridesmaid bouquet for something fun and unique!

Jaycee is one of my Aug brides and is so stinking cute! Her and her mom Marnae have got some great ideas for the wedding flowers and together we came up with this unique bouquet of green fugi mums, green orchids, brown fern curls, white callas, and different grasses. The bouquet was caged by curly willow and I hung turquoise jewels from the willow. This bouquet turned out so amazing I was so excited for Marnae & Jaycee to see it. I hope to get some better pictures from her in a while. :) Until then enjoy these two shots!

I did a Bridal Show in April at the South Towne Expo center. I finally got the pictures off my mom's camera this weekend. So these are a little late. I had a blast doing this and I had such a good team of helpers.

My mom came down from Idaho and helped me in the booth and to make the trees with the hanging flowers. Some of my really good friends Teresa , her husband John and Sharon came to help me set up and get the trees made and decorated. I couldn't have done it without their help. Also thanks to my husband, sister Stephanie, and sister-in-law Rachel for tagging and putting together 750 suckers with my business card attached! YES 750 of the dang things! hahahaha I am so loved! :)

I had three tables set up with different themes and colors. The common color for all the tables was purple.

My friend Ashlee from Ceniza Studios and I decided to come together once a month and take pictures of my work. Ashlee takes amazing pictures and I am so excited to be working with her on this new adventure. Our first shoot was in May and we ended up going to two areas one a meadow and the other an alley. I learned a fun fact about Ashlee that she likes to take pictures in areas that have the potential of you getting kicked out! hahahaha I can tell you that our monthly shoots are going to be exciting! So I am excited to announce that I will have a new web page by next weekend! (cross your fingers) This is a great change to the company and I am thrilled its finally happening.

We just finished a bridal show at the South Towne Exp last weekend and it was a total success. I am happy to say we met a lot of brides and our booth was beautiful!

Because of the new site we are making changes to pricing and packages. I have strongly felt that there needed to be changes to these two areas and I have found a comfort level that will be beneficial to both myself and brides. The changes come by a change in the floral design world.

I have decided to emphasize on the design aspect and less on how much the flowers cost. Lets be honest anyone can find out the cost of flowers these days so charging $4 or $5 dollars for a bloom that cost $2 just frustrates people.

So the basic breakdown of my pricing:

1- Cost of the flowers plus 30% -The 30% is my time in actually researching the flowers and product, picking it up, and processing the product.
2- Design Fee- I have been designing for 10 years so I can confidently say how long it takes me to produce designs. I charge $60.00/hour.
3- Shipping- I purchase my flowers from a reliable source at the LA Flower Market. I do this for three reasons: quality, product selection, and cost. I have found that using the flower market cuts out the middle suppliers many people use here locally. Upon request I will use local suppliers and forfeit the shipping fee.
4- Set up/delivery- To insure that all flowers are in pristine condition I deliver to both the ceremony & reception location (if they are different). I provide the service of pinning on corsages and bouts, instructing attendants on how to hold their bouquets, and setting out all reception decor. This cost starts at $40.00/hour per person and increases depending on location.
5- Consultation Fee- When booking with Chic Design Studios you receive 5 FREE hours of consultation time. Any time beyond that is billed at $25.00/hour.

With the new site I am offering FOUR collections that cater to a specific style and theme. :) I am super excited about this option and hope that brides trust in my talent and ability to create stunning arrangements.

I am also changing our min order from $700.00 back to $350.00 to help in these economic times.

Exciting news!

Well yesterday I got some exciting news about the Bridal Show at South Towne Exp next weekend.
I get to move booths! Yeah for me!!! I get to move to a larger booth in a great location and I am super excited. With the new booth I get to add to my design and that excites me but not the check book! hahaha I will be in booth #90 which is next to the new Bridal Boutique section of the show. Look for the large structures made out of curly willow! I can't decide whether to make them into an arch and have that be the entrance or keep them in the back to frame my banner. Hmmmm decisions decisions. I am sure that Friday while I am setting up I will decide! :)
Remember the first 150 brides to my booth will receive a 10% off postcard to use before July 2010 when min order is met. This is a great deal and will save you a min of $70. Which when your on a budget every little bit helps!

Idaho Weddings...

So I have been getting a lot of questions from people regarding if I still do wedding in Idaho. The answer is YES!

I love doing wedding in Idaho so do not hesitate to call, text, or email if you are in the Blackfoot, ID area. I do not charge a travel fee but I have a min order of $600.

The process for Idaho weddings is pretty simple. I provide consultations on weekends. Usually one consultation is enough and I provide that free of charge. All other correspondence is done via email and phone. If by chance you need a second or third consultation then there is a $75.00 consultation fee per visit.

I arrive a day or two before your wedding and at that time if you would like to meet again (free of charge) and see the flowers you are welcome to. Remember at this time no changes can be made to your wedding order.

Credit Cards....

So I recently got set up to accept credit cards!!! I will be accepting all major credit cards.

The process will be that I will email you an invoice and you can pay directly from the email. I do it through PayPal but you do not have to have an account with them. I do charge a service fee of 3% and that will show on the invoice. It is super safe and secure so that is always a relief!

So in January my cousin Darci got re married and she asked me to do her flowers & decorations. When she called she told me about a dream she had of what the reception was supposed to look like. She wanted a white backdrop with two columns with large arrangements of red & white roses. She was wanted lots of touelle and rose petals scattered around.

For her bouquet I did all red roses with white feathers. And the large arrangements where red & white roses with lots of greenery and wax flower.

So I found a bunch of film that I thought I developed and I really hadn't. So when I got the film back I was pleasantly surprised to find some arrangements I did for a Channel 6 early morning news during Bridal week. I had totally forgot about the whole thing so the arrangements brought back some memories! :)

I love bright colors and I love aluminum wire! So what better type of bouquet then to mix them. I used yellow orchids, orange roses, orange tulips, and purple iris. I took aluminum wire and made swirls as accent. Turned out super cute!

I did a white and green bouquet with twigs and if you look really close you will find some little blue birds hiding amongst the flowers.

A great bouquet of callas, roses, agapanthus, and anemones in a dark color scheme of purples, blues, and red.

A centerpiece that reflected a more traditional style of pink roses, lilies, fruit and blooming branches.

The last arrangement was a sea inspired table scape of varies vase heights filled with hydrangea, callas, and sand with seashells.

December: Julia Bountiful, UT

If you remember the bride Sara that I did in May you will be excited to hear that her little sister Julia came to me to do her flowers as well in December. Now these two are sisters but are different in every way. Julia wanted something very classic and traditional. Here colors were black, white, with hints of red. She wanted an all white bouquet and we accented with black velvet ribbon with pearls. The flowers we used where white hydrangea, white tulips (Julia's favorite), and white ranunculus. For the bouts we used white tulips and for the corsages we brought in white dendrobium orchids. I dusted her bouquet with a pearl spray that gave it just a hint of glam. The flowers turned out stunning!

October: Teresa at Noah's South Jordan

Teresa is a very very good friend of mine. We went to High School together as well as lived together during college. Teresa picked a great location at Noah's in South Jordan. This is my first wedding at this location and I was totally impressed with all the variety they have to offer. Teresa wanted something clean and fresh. She likes green, white, and brown. Since she trusts me... :) she just let me run with her wedding. And I DID! :)

I adore orchids so I had to use lime green cymbidium orchids as her green. My next favorite green flower is green roses, they are so awesome! For the white we used white hydrangea (another favorite) and white callas. I accented with brown monkey tails and brown wire for the wrap. Her bridesmaid had hydrangea, roses, and green carnations. To save on cost we double used her bridesmaid bouquet for some of her centerpieces. We had tall and short centerpieces the short cubes where the bridesmaids bouquet and the tall cylinders were filled with river rock and we floated a single orchid at the bottom. Also to add a little bling I made a curly willow top and hung jewels from the curly willow. Turned out pretty cool I think! :) For the cake we decorated the layers with lime green cymbidium orchids. For the tables we used brocade runners in brown and we rented some high boy tables for a difference in height and used brown and cream fabrics. All in all it turned out very modern and elegant.

September: Liz Blackfoot, ID

My cousin Liz got married in September and I got to do her flowers. She wanted something simple and as long as it was blue and yellow she was fine with it. She had a couple of specific requests like blue iris because it is her husbands favorite flower and she likes gerbera daisys. I chose to do a garden style bouquet with hydrangea, blue delph, yellow gerbs, blue iris, and red hypericum. I wrapped the handle with blue ribbon and accented it with tiny yellow bows and jewels. Her centerpieces where a mix of garden pots with herbs and succulents and glass cubes of hydrangea and gerbs. I used white chairs and blue linens on the tables.

June: Daisha Blackfoot, ID

Daisha got married in June in Blackfoot, ID. I was so excited that she contacted me to do her flowers. She is young and fun and her flowers totally showed that. She wanted a color scheme of hot pink, orange, yellow, and green. She sent me a picture of a bouquet and we did the flowers and colors around that. I thought it turned out just like her fun and young!

Julie was a wonderful bride that had all of her ducks in a row! She had pictures and an idea of what she wanted and that made my life easy. She loves pink....lots of PINK and did I mention JEWELS!?! So we did a beautiful wedding of varying shades of pink from hot to light with lots of bling. The setting was spectacular at Alta with some of the best views of the mountains I have ever seen. I built two structures to frame the mountains for the ceremony and then we moved them around after for the reception. Enjoy some of the pictures!

Sarah Bigelow was my bride in May that chose blue and orange for her wedding colors. We used light blue hydrangea with orange callas, orange lilies, and orange ranunculus. Sara is an artist so she wanted some visual interest so we caged her bouquet in curly willow and hung blue jewels from various points. She also wanted a bow which I tucked inconspicuously under the hydrangea. This bouquet turned out awesome!!! Enjoy!

Because this is a new year full of new ideas and new advertising strategies I am offering our first time ever FREE bridal bouquet for your bridals giveaway! I am offering four bridal bouquets to four lucky brides.
WHY? You ask.... :) for a couple of reasons: First every bride could benefit from getting something for nothing during the planning of a wedding. Seriously things can get expensive! Rules: Yes there are always rules!

#2- Bride and photographer must sign a contract that says that I will receive and have rights to at least 15 photographs that showcase the bridal bouquet alone or being held by the bride.

Here are the design inspirations:

Red & Turquoise Traditional- bright red flowers with blue accents. Red roses, red berries, Gerber's daisy's, and greenery.

Purple & Orange Modern- Various shades of purple and orange with wire accents. Flowers: purple orchids, orange protea, orange roses, purple callas, and tropical foliage.

Bright yellow, hot pink, green, and touches of blue. Fun, quirky, and fresh! Flowers will be straight out of the garden. Daisy's, hydrangea, iris, delph, roses, etc...

White and romantic. Lots of lush white flowers, crystal accents, and full of greens. Flowers will be hydrangea, gardenias, orchids, ranunculas, roses, and other flowers.

New Year=New Goals....

Ok....so I have literally fallen off the blogging wagon for this blog and I soooo apologize. I have been busy doing weddings...the film has yet to be developed.
I can just hear the gasp of dismay when I used the word "FILM". hahahaha I am sure you are all wondering why the crap I have not upgraded to a digital so I will explain. I have an amazing film camera that I bought for my photography class in college and it takes the most amazing pictures. My digital does not seem to capture the color, texture, and look of my designs like the film camera. So until I can afford the high class digital camera I desire I am still the one and only person using film! :)
But this weekend I will be taking my five rolls of film to be developed and you will get a lot of new pictures of my past year.
The up and coming blog post of the following weddings will be: my wedding :), Bridal photo shoot, Sarah's wedding (if I can ever get a hold of her), Daisha's Wedding, Julie's Wedding, Liz's Wedding, Teresa's Wedding, and Julia's Wedding. Also I will post my Christmas Tree for 2009 and my mom's mantel I did as part of her Christmas present. :)
So my goal for 2010 is to blog on time :) and to add blogs about different aspects of design not just my wedding work. So you will get to see some of my favorite interior design ideas, wedding ideas, and photography. Hopefully it goes the way I imagine in my head! :) And hopefully I can figure out how to file my post by the labels!

Cubed roses

So I got creative and thought it would be fun to play with small cubes and roses. This would be a really cute centerpiece. You could put it in a cluster on a mirror with tea lights. You could do multiple stacked levels. With more than one grouping. Honestly the options are endless! Hope you think they are as cute as I do!!! :)

Business For Sale

So I have to tell you my conversation with Wid yesterday. I was snooping on KSL for business for sale (don't ask Y) and I came across a floral shop in Orem for sale so I texted Wid it went something like this....

me: honey there is a floral shop for sale in Orem, UT

Wid: honey.....do you really want to do THAT again!?! (hahaaha he new my agony last time)

me: but I miss playing with flowers!

Wid: how is your wedding advertising going?

me: I have my bridals this weekend and then I have two photographers lined up for their bridal shoots. But we won't be making any money on them...

ME: honey? Did you get that last message?

me: hahaha not to happy with me are you?

Needless to say I recieved no comment on what Wid thought of me doing bridal bouquets for FREE!!! But oh well he will survive (I hope anyway!).

So I know this blog really does not have any flowers in it but still it deal with weddings! Here are some pictures of my fiance and I to choose from for our invitations. I am pretty excited to start getting these things done!!!
I have my bridals next week so I get to decide on what kind of bouquet to do for it. So many choices I don't know!!! :) I will post those pictures as soon as the photographer gets them back.
I also started networking with a photographer and we have a little deal. I make a bridal bouquet for their bridal seasons and I get free professional pictures of my work! SWEET! So my first bride is February 21 and I am so excited. Check back in March and you should have lots of updates!!!

Well....I thought I better ad some updates to my blog so here we go. I will have my first wedding in Utah at the end of February. It will be my OWN but hey it counts! :) I am really excited about the new year and the new adventure that is in store for myself and my soon to be fiance Wid. I have big plans so I hope he can handle them! hahaha He is super supportive which is great and wants me to start doing wedidngs again. So I am so excited to blog my new web page!!! I finally found a site that could help me create a web page for super duper cheap! And my web page matches all my other advertising stuff so that is pretty fun. Well I am hoping and praying that at the beginning of the year I will have all my business cards in and a display at a local jeweler set up. I am talking with my fiance about doing a wedding show in April or September. We are trying to decide which one will cause us the least amount of stress...hahahaha its a wedding show of course there will be stress!!! I am hoping that I will be able to start designing again soon in Utah. I miss doing weddings so much there are times I get pretty mopey because of it. Hope you enjoy the web page. Here is the last wedding Dayley Floral did before the big move!!! One of our girls mom was getting remarried so we did a bouquet & centerpieces for her. The red linens where also from our new wedding planning section that we are expanding. The bouquet turned out very very nice!!! The red roses, red calla lilies, and black leaves. Very dramatic!!!

So I got to the flowers for one of my old roommates Tammi. She got married in December and I got to help her choose flowers while I was in Washington on vacation so that was fun! hahaha but we had fun and got things all taken care of. In August 2007 we got to do a really fun wedding with lots of cool accents. Andrea wanted the hot pinks and hot orange for her colors but she loved stephanotis. So we used all hot pink and orange roses with orange orchids and added stephanotis with colored jewels in them. Her bouquet turned out soooo awesome! I loved it!!! And we added curly willow throughout her line flowers and her cake.

So my good friends Cain and Libbie got married last year in Sept. They let me do the flowers for their wedding. Libbie chose blue, black, and white. They were super fun colors to use because we got blue hydrangea in and white orchids with fun black cubes for the centerpieces. I have to figure out how to scan the centerpieces so those pictures will come later. But here is her bouquet. it was really fun to do it is blue hydrangea with white orchids. We used curly willow and dendrobium orchids to go around the bouquet. Pretty cool....

So here are pictures of the Richardson Wedding, Feb 2008. Jesse was our first wedding we did the full decorations for! She was great to work with and chose really fun colors. Her colors where orange, brown, and some burnt red. We used twigs and pheasant feathers throughout all her decor which was awesome! So in August we did a wedding for the Acor Family. Shayna and Shayla (names are soooo close together! :)) really did their research before coming in. They new what bouquet they wanted and we went from there. We did their back drop, linens, and line flowers. The colors were very rich in the deep reds and oranges with brown accents. I must say they are some of my favorite colors. They got many compliments about how their reception looked like it was out of the magazines. I will give you a secret....its the linens!!! :) They really add a nice rich feel to an event.

Katlyn was great to work with and a lot of fun. We did her line flowers, buffett piece, and centerpieces. Her colors where lime green and hot pink! They were really popular colors last summer and they turned out great!

Well I am starting a blog about my new business K&W Weddings & Events. I figured this would be the best way for people to see my work and get to know me better. My name is Kimberly and I have worked as a floral designer/wedding consultant for eight years. That is a loooong time!!! :) I love working with brides and grooms to make their day memorable. My style varies from traditional to the unique and nontradtional. I love to custom design backdrops and wedding decor to help make your wedding a one of a kind. I will be working throughout the Salt Lake City area and into Southeast Idaho. I don't mind traveling and find that is when it gets fun!
